Jeanne Lavaur charts her own course through the 20th century from butcher’s daughter to aspiring countess. Through wars 1920s Paris, and Brazil, she’s caught between two lovers: Count Guillaume de Barante and Italian revolutionary Céleste. The Golden Age ( L’Âge d’or ) is a bold and singular feature film directed by Bérenger Thouin and produced by GoGoGo Films. Presented in the Cannes Classics section of the Festival de Cannes, the film delivers a unique visual experience blending fiction with historical archive footage.

Led by Souheila Yacoub, the story follows Jeanne through the upheavals of the 20th century, from the Roaring Twenties and World War II to Brazil, in an epic narrative where past and present merge on screen.

One of the project’s most distinctive achievements lies in the seamless integration of actors within archival footage sourced from Gaumont Pathé Archives, creating striking interactions between contemporary performances and historical imagery. The entire film was shot in black and white before being fully colorized, ensuring visual consistency between newly shot material and restored archive sequences.
